Tony Atherton is a freelance trainer and writer who specialises
in presenting in-company courses in business and technical
report writing, taking minutes, general business writing, negotiation skills
and time management in England and Wales. Courses can be presented elsewhere by
arrangement. Over the last 10 years, Tony has presented approximately 600 courses for a range of clients both on his own behalf and on behalf of some of Britain's largest training companies including Reed Training (over 250 courses), Fielden-Cegos (70+) and RightCoutts (70+), often presenting his own courses under their branding. He has trained over 7000 delegates
in a variety of topics and is accustomed to working in both the public and
private sectors. Originally working in engineering, Tony turned to negotiation skills training and time management training in the early 1990s. He became a freelance consultant in January 1998. A published author since 1984, he also has a variety of business writing courses in his portfolio. In fact, writing skills now account for about half of his courses in the form of minute taking, technical report writing, business report writing and general business writing/plain English. He has written and presented a lengthy series of courses for Ofsted on concise report writing and applying the Ofsted style guide. Through national training companies his clients include: Barclaycard, NatWest Bank, the Millennium Commission, the Inland Revenue, the Food Standards Agency, BP, Learning Skills Councils, IBM, NCAS, many local councils and many private companies. In fact, he has presented training courses and workshops for about 180 organisations in the past few years. He draws on over 25 years'
professional experience including time in the Royal Navy, GEC-Marconi, the
University of Hong Kong, the Independent Broadcasting Authority and as training
manager at NTL. As a training inspector, he inspected 23 organisations on
behalf of the Adult Learning Inspectorate and the Training Standards Council.
As a writer he has had four books published, including books on Time
Management, Delegation and Coaching and Marketing
Yourself, not to mention over 90 articles.
